Practical Piano Improvisation - Section One
Practical Piano Improvisation is for pianists who want to learn to improvise. We will learn about the basic elements of harmony, melody and rhythm and how to use them to improvise. This material is a result of forty years of experience as a professional Jazz pianist. The ideas presented here can be applied to any style of music.
What’s Included In This Course
- In this first section, we will be learning about basic harmony; major scales, chords, etc. We will also talk about basic rhythmic ideas, especially syncopation. We will talk about creating our own melodies using chord tones and scales. Finally, we will use a simple song as a way to begin applying our new knowledge.
- The course is divided into sections for easy reference, and exercises are given for applying each of the ideas we discuss. Written examples are also included. All examples are presented in the key of C major. Eventually, they should be learned in all major keys. (We will talk about minor keys in another section.)
The course is designed for self study, but I am also available for lessons online, should you wish to pursue these ideas in more depth. I hope you find this material helpful! Keith Davis Music
